About SUWO
The Sydney University Wind Orchestra is an award-winning ensemble that performs a wide and diverse range of repertoire, specialising in modern symphonic wind band music from the mid-20th and 21st centuries.
SUWO rehearses each Thursday evening of the university semester from 6-9 at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and presents a major concert at the end every semester at the Con’s wonderful Verbrugghen Hall. Aside from these performances, SUWO regularly features its members in smaller ensembles and solo performances in concerts, on tours and at our annual mid-year camp.
As a part of the University of Sydney Union Clubs and Societies program, SUWO is operated by an 11-person student committee and not only prides itself on its musical achievements, but also on its friendly, social environment. SUWO is also a Unit of Study for USyd students offered through the Sydney Conservatorium of Music as a 3 credit-point course (per semester) that can count towards your degree and enrolment is optional beyond 6 credit points.
Winner of ‘Best Small Club’ for 5 consecutive years from 2006-2010 and shortlisted for the Dave Burnett Award for Best Club with 100+ members in 2013 our musicians enjoy many fun filled social events, from dinner gatherings, to bowling, Bunnings BBQs fundraising days and musical outings.
